Storhogna, Jämtland – Exploring Sweden

Storhogna is a ski resort directly at the border between the provinces of Jämtland and Härjedalen. It is part of what in Sweden is referred to as “Fjällen”, the mountains of Fennoscandia. The area offers a high and barren landscape and it could be considered a region of mountain tundra.


A Short History of Storhogna

Storhogna was established as a ski resort in the 1970s. The first commercial establishment in the area was a coffee house that opened in 1965. Storhogna has since grown, both in regards to the alpine skiing system as well as surrounding accommodation and services. The alpine skiing system was in 1997 connected to the system in Klövsjö.


Things to Do and See

This is mainly a winter resort, but there are activities also during the summer. Hiking and mountain biking are popular summer activities up in the mountains and during winter all kinds of skiing are common.

Alpine Skiing

Alpine skiing is the main attraction of Storhogna and the Klövsjö-Storhogna skiing area includes 20 slopes and 13 lifts. The highest difference in altitude is 340 meters and the longest slope is 2010 meters.

The skiing areas of Vemdalen, Vemdalsskalet and Björnrike, are also close by.

Plupp’s Path

Hiking with kids? A shorter story path exists. Plupp is a character from the children’s books by Inga Borg (1925-2017). Plupp is a blue-haired figure living in the far north. Along the path, you will find Plupp’s lavvu, his home, and several small challenges for the kids.

Hiking

There are several hiking paths around Storhogna, both easy and advanced. One of the shorter hikes will take you to the Sami settlement and the waterfall Fallmoran.


How to get to Storhogna

  • Flights: The closest airports are Härjedalen Sveg Airport (EVG) located 84 km away and Åre Östersund Airport (OSD) located 116 km away. They both connect the area with the Stockholm-Arlanda Airport (ARN) for connections around the globe.
  • Car: Storhogna is located close to the E45 between Östersund and Sveg.
  • Train: Closest train station is Röjan station, located 17 km away.
  • Bus: There are regional buses connecting nearby Klövsjö with the surrounding area.
