Tillé, Picardy – Exploring France

Tillé is a village in northern France that many have visited without being aware of it. The village lies right next to the Beauvais-Tillé Airport (BVA). This results in many visitors arriving and without considering the proximity to the village, jumps on a bus to Paris. The village lies in the historical province of Picardy, right next to the town of Beauvais. The whole area is today a part of the region of Hauts-de-France. Tillé has in addition to the airport a church and a small bakery. It is also home to around 1.200 inhabitants.

Tillé is home to the headquarters of the company ISAGRI. This is an IT company with a specific focus on the agricultural sector. The group employs a few thousand worldwide and around 1.000 are employed at the offices right between the main village and the town of Beauvais.

Our Visit to Tillé

We visited Tillé for a short walk in February of 2024. It was during a visit to Paris that we made sure to spend a day in Beauvais and ended up in the village while waiting on our flight back to Sweden.

A Short History

Tillé has been home to settlements for centuries, or even longer. The village has had an important location, something that has caused issues such as when it was destroyed by the Duke of Burgundy in 1472. The village did even have a castle, which was demolished in 1774. Its more recent history includes the establishment of the airfield in 1918, during the First World War. The airfield was accepting civilian traffic in the interwar period and did have flights along the route between Le Bourget and London. It was continuously used by the military duringthe Second World War. First by the French and from 1940 by the German Luftwaffe. At the war, it was housing British squadrons.

Things to Do and See

Tillé is a small quiet village with good spots for walking. There are no major sights, with the church being the most prominent building. The airport is always close by for anyone wanting to see a Boeing 737 take off or an Airbus A320 land. There are a few accommodations in the village and a few local services. For a lot of the cultural and social activities, the main attractions are probably in Beauvais. Even Paris is within easy reach.
