Population of Cyprus

Cyprus has a population of about 1.3 million (early 2025). This includes a significant expatriate community. The island is home to Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. Other diverse communities also live here. English is widely spoken. This makes communication easy. The official languages are Greek and Turkish. The capital, Nicosia, is its largest city. It’s the only divided capital in the world.

Cyprus is located in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. It lies south of Turkey. Syria and Lebanon are to its east. Israel and Egypt are to its south. Its location is highly strategic. This has shaped its long history. It’s a bridge between Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Entry Points to Cyprus

Accessing Cyprus is straightforward. The island has excellent air and sea connections. Land travel is limited due to its island nature and political division.

By Air: Larnaca International Airport (LCA) is the main gateway. It handles the most international flights. Many European and Middle Eastern airlines fly here. Paphos International Airport (PFO) is another key airport. It’s popular with charter and low-cost carriers. It serves the western part of the island. Both offer good connections to resorts.

By Sea: Ferry services to Cyprus are limited. Cruise ships frequently visit Cypriot ports. Limassol is the main commercial port. It hosts many cruise lines. Passenger ferries sometimes operate from Greece. However, these are not regular year-round services.

By Land: As an island, direct international land entry is not possible. However, within Cyprus, crossing between the Republic of Cyprus (south) and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (north) is possible. Several crossing points exist for pedestrians and vehicles. They include Ledra Palace and Ledra Street in Nicosia. Check current regulations before planning crossings.
