Gunnetorp, Blekinge – Exploring Sweden

Gunnetorp is a small settlement to the west of Tving, in the province of Blekinge in Southern Sweden. The settlement has around 30 adult inhabitants and it is in a countryside setting with fields for farming in its vicinity.

Several of my ancestors have called Gunnetorp their home, these include Karl Johan Gustafsson (1837-1914) and Maria Svensdotter (1842-1937). Who knows, maybe there are still a few of their descendants living here today.

A Short History of Gunnetorp

Gunnetorp was mentioned already in the first known household examination records for Tving Parish at the end of the 18th century. The settlement is also found already in the mid-17th century in the population census of the time. Gunnetorp had already in the mid-17th century 10 households and even though the area has developed it is still a small community surrounded by farmland.

Things to Do and See

Even though this area might be missing prominent buildings or natural features, exploring countryside roads in Sweden, either on foot or on a bike, is an adventure in itself. Exploring this small settlement is not about climbing a mountain or entering a large historical building. It is instead about enjoying the old farmland setting in the countryside of Blekinge.
