Cheer Up With A Zesty Ginger Lemon Shot

Once in a while, when I need a quick energy boost, I make this wonderful ginger elixir. Packed with important minerals and vitamins, this miracle root cleanses and strengthens. Some of its benefits include the reduction of pain, anti-inflammatory effects, as well as the reduction of nausea. Benefits aside, I really like the taste of fresh ginger and I add it into all types of different drinks. Ancient Indian ayurveda lives by the saying  “Everything good is found in ginger”.

My zesty ginger lemon shot is quick to make and it tastes heavenly. It’s also easy to prepare a lot of it in one go. Enjoy in the morning or before meals with a big glass of water. I have modified a recipe that I found in the book Yogamat by Anna Gidgård and Cecilia Davidsson*.

Ginger lemon shot

Ginger Lemon Shot: Ingredients

  • A large piece of ginger root
  • 2 dl (0,85 cups) lemon juice
  • 1 dl (0,4 cups) lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 dl (0,85 cups) water
  • Black pepper

In the original recipe, the juice comes from fresh fruits. As I had no fresh fruits, I used the ready made juices (lemon and lime) that I had in my fridge.

Ginger Lemon Shot: Preparations

  1. Cut the ginger into pieces. In case you have a juice extractor, use it. Otherwise you can do like I did, just grate the root into tiny pieces.
  2. Put all the ingredients in a blender. Mix well.
  3. Pour all the ingredients in a jar and leave it in the fridge.
  4. Enjoy the great taste!

Whenever you need a quick pick-me-up, just mix some of this elixir with cold water. The taste is very zesty and very gingery. I find that is also quite addicitve, in a good way! It is also a great way to substitute lemonades or soft drinks.
