Fellingsbro, Västmanland – Exploring Sweden

Fellingsbro is a locality in the historical province of Västmanland. The area is, however, today a part of Lindesberg Municipality in Örebro County. This is a population center that has developed in the vicinity of the former railway station. Today the population is around 1400 inhabitants.


A Short History of Fellingsbro

The railway between Köping and Hult was opened already in the 19th century. The part between Ervalla and Arboga was completed in 1857. The railway included a station in Fellingbro and a settlement developed around it. The new settlement is located within Fellingsbro Parish but was established a few kilometers south of the church.

The railway was in use until a new shorter line was opened in 1997. Now there are mainly goods traffic on these rails and there are a few passenger trains that no longer stop at the station. The locality reached its peak in population during the years with the railway. In 1980 the population had passed 2000 inhabitants, but it was also at this time that the population started to decline.


Things to Do and See

The old train station still stands next to the rails and has the fire station as a neighbor. The center of the locality has a grocery store and restaurant, the traditional small-town pizzeria. There are also a few minor businesses and services to be found here. Fellingsbro is surrounded by farmland, but there are forests close by with hiking areas and marked paths for walkers and joggers.

Sights nearby include the parish church a few kilometers to the north. There s also the towns of Arboga, Köping, Lindesberg, and Örebro in the vicinity to explore.

  • Car: Fellingsbro is along Road 249 west of Arboga.
  • Bus: Local buses from Länstrafiken Örebro connect Fellingsbro with the surrounding region.
