Esplanaden, Mariehamn – Sights on Åland

Esplanaden is a narrow green oasis in the town of Mariehamn on the Åland Islands. In English, this is the Esplanade, a pedestrian promenade through the town. This gravel path is framed by linden trees and connects the western harbor with the eastern harbor. At its center is the Church of Saint George and if you decide to walk its length, you will pass by several statues. Along the path, there are also plenty of benches and places to rest. At its eastern end, you will find the main square of the town – Torget. If you head west you will end up in the western harbor with the huge ferries, but also sights such as the park Badhusparken and the impressive museum ship S/V Pommern.

Find Your Way to Esplanaden

If you cross Mariehamn from north to south you are almost bound to pass by Esplanaden at one point. Well, as long as you don’t do that along the waterfronts. This pedestrian path can be found at the center of the town, going parallel to the street Storgatan.
