Sköllersta, Närke – Exploring Sweden

Sköllersta is a locality in Hallsberg Municipality in Örebro County. It lies within the borders of the historical province of Närke in central Sweden. This is the home to around 1100 inhabitants as well as the factory for Lithells that produces sausages.


A Short History of Sköllersta

Sköllersta Parish had its origins in the Middle Ages and the parish church dates back to the 13th century. The parish acted as the local government until the Swedish Municipal Reform of 1862. This was when the parish’s responsibilities were split between the new civic government of Sköllersta Municipality and the church congregation. The municipality became a part of Hallsberg Municipality in 1971 while the church congregation is a part of the Bo-Svennevad Congregation since 2010.


Things to Do and See

The locality consists mostly of one-family homes with the local school at its center. At its outskirts are the former parish church and the football fields of Sköllervallen.

Sköllersta Church

The local church dates back to the 13th century. It is a stone church with a separate wooden clock tower. Many centuries and alterations after its construction it is today a part of Sköllersta Congregation within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sweden.

Lithells Factory

Lithells is a Swedish manufacturer of sausages that since 1956 has their production in Sköllersta. They were founded in 1907 in Kumla and have since expanded with especially the brand Sibylla, a well-known fast food franchise. The company is today a part of Atria.


How to Get to Sköllersta

  • Flights: Örebro Airport (ORB) is 29 kilometers to the north.
  • Car: Sköllersta is on Road 52 just to the east of Kumla.
  • Bus: Local buses from Länstrafiken Örebro connect Sköllersta with the surrounding region.
  • Train: The closest train stations are in Hallsberg, Kumla, and Örebro.
