A Short History of Skebobruk

The ironworks of Skebo Bruk was established in 1626 by the German-born industrialist Hinrich Lemmens. The production here consisted of wrought iron. Skebo Bruk also owned the blast furnace in Edsbro and it was there that the necessary pig iron was produced of the iron ore from mainly the mines in Dannemora. At its center was the Skebo Manor which was built in the 1760s, this was the administrative center of the ironwork. The production was discontinued in 1924.

Things to Do and See

The ironwork is today something of an open-air museum. You can walk along the historical buildings and enjoy the scenery. Some of the buildings have found new purposes. These days the former fire station is a museum about the locality’s industrial past.

Skebo Herrgård

The manorhouse of Skebo was completed in 1770. It was for a long time the administrative center of the ironwork but has seen many uses and owners after the production ended.
