Last Friday was a wonderful sunny day and we took the possibility to visit the open-air museum here in Stockholm – Skansen. It is actually the world’s oldest open-air museum and it’s located on beautiful Djurgården. The interesting thing about Skansen is that it also includes a zoo, with mainly nordic animals. But you will also find an aquarium and a building with monkeys. We really like to just walk around in the park and enjoy the scenery.
Our choice this time was to get a family card. Now we can visit the park as much as we would like during the coming year. So this will not be the last post about Skansen here on the blog. We will, later on, write a more detailed post about Skansen for the ones that are interested. For now, this will mostly be about our last visit and the nordic animals in the park.

Skansen – Friday, Sunshine, and the Nordic Animals
Finally, the summer has arrived in Stockholm and on the first day with proper sunshine we decided to go to Skansen. It is not too far away from home, so we thought that it could be a good test for us to go with the trolley. There is a little one joining us on our trips now. Skansen was the first real trip outside of our neighborhood.
One thing to notice once arriving at Skansen is that it stands on a hill. This means that when you have entered the main gates, you still have to climb the hill or take the escalator to reach the rest of the park. Usually, this is no problem, but it was a bit more challenging with a trolley.
There are different parts of Skansen, our choice for this visit was the nordic animals. To see all of Skansen properly, you will most likely need more than a day. The nordic animals are located in the northeast part of the park, as far away from the main gates as you can get.
So we started walking and got to see more than we had expected once we reached the part with the animals. The eagle owl was awake. The lynx was visible, but of course, resting as always. The younger bears were playing around. The otter was playing around with a rock. And the seals made a show as always. Then there were the wolves, the elks, the wild boars, and the European bison. In other words, it was the perfect time of the year to visit as many of the animals had just had offspring. Especially the playful bear cubs were a real treat!
Then there are also the animals running around free in the park, such as birds and squirrels.
