Kycklingedalen, Bohuslän – Exploring Sweden

Now it’s time for us to tell you about a place that might get you to forget Silicon Valley for a few seconds. Kycklingedalen is a small community on the outskirts of the locality Ödsmål. If you translate the name from Swedish, it means the Chicken Valley in English. This community, which mostly consists of vacation homes, is part of the countryside in the historical province of Bohuslän, a part of the western coast of Sweden. Today, 14 adults live in Kycklingedalen on a permanent basis, but there are several people more here during the summer months.

A Short History of Kycklingedalen

Kycklingedalen was mentioned already in the first known household examination records for Ödsmål Parish. It was then, in the late 18th century, home to Gulbran Andersson, his wife Annica Persdotter, and their five children. Even though the area has developed since the early days, it has remained a small community centered around farming with the later addition of vacation homes.

Things to Do and See

Kycklingedalen has easy access to a large section of the Swedish western coast. There are two beaches nearby, one in Talbo at Lake Stora Hällungen and another one, Söskärs Badplats, in Ödsmål. The closest town is Stenungsund, which has both shopping and restaurants. However, there are more places to explore along the coast. For instance, it is not far to the islands of Orust and Tjörn.
