Källvik, Södermanland – Exploring Sweden

Källvik is a small settlement on a peninsula south of Trosa in the province of Södermanland. This is in many ways one of the gateways to the archipelago in this part of eastern Sweden. It is most famous for its marina and small wharf which is the access point to other parts of the archipelago such as the island of Sävö. Otherwise, the settlement does mostly consists of vacation homes, but there are a few year-around residents.


A Short History of Källvik

Källvik existed on maps dating back to 1679, then as a farmstead known as Källwijk. It would, however, take until the 1930s before a the permanent road was built. What was once a isolated farmstead has since developed and the area was exploited for vacation home development during the 20th century.


Things to Do and See

If you go to Källvik during a sunny summer day you will notice that the car park is crowded. It is the marina, but also the nearby island of Sävö that attracts the many visitors. The marina is only for private boats, but the cafe on the island of Sävö has has a service with a smaller boat to take visitors to the island. This is the tip of the peninsula, being protected from the open waters of the Baltic Sea by the many islands of the archipelago.

Hiking: Sörmlandsleden Route 53:1

Sörmlandsleden is a number of hiking routes throughout the province of Södermanland. There are plenty to choose between and one of these routes will take you either to or from Källvik. This is Route 53:1 that covers the 8 kilometers between Källvik and Sandvik. It is a route that continues with 53:2 on the island of Sävö.


How to Get to Källvik

  • Flights: The nearest airport is Stockholm Skavsta Airport (NYO) 48 kilometers to the west. Sweden’s largest airport, Stockholm Arlanda (ARN), is 124 kilometers to the north.
  • Car: Källvik is along countryside roads southwest of Trosa.
  • Bus: Buses from Sörmlandstrafiken connect Källvik with the surrounding area with a bus stop a few kilometers away.
  • Train: There are train stations in nearby Nyköping and Vagnhärad.
