Lännäs, Närke – Exploring Sweden

Lännäs is a settlement and former parish in the historical province of Närke in central Sweden. With a Middle Age church at its center, it is surrounded by farmland in this rural part of the province. The settlement is today a part of Örebro Municipality within Örebro County.

A Short History of Lännäs

Lännäs Parish has its origins in the Middle Ages and its church is believed to have been built already in the 12th century. Much of the old church was replaced when a new church was built in 1777, but a few sections were re-used.

The parish was the center of life here until the Swedish municipal reform of 1862. At this time, the operations of the parish were split between the local government of Lännäs Municipality and the church congregation. In 1952, the municipality was incorporated into Asker Municipality, which in turn became a part of Örebro Municipality in 1971. As far as the church congregation is concerned, it is since 2022 a part of Asker-Lännäs Congregation.

Things to Do and See

Lännes is in the countryside of Örebro County with farmlands in its direct vicinity. The tranquility might be disturbed by the nearby road, but looking out over the fields is still enjoyable. Urban centers like Örebro and Katrineholm are not far away and neither is Lake Hjälmaren if you wish to find somewhere to swim.

Lännäs Church

The parish church was built in 1777 but re-used several parts from the 12th-century church that it replaced. For example, the church tower was saved and has its origins in the Middle Ages. The church is today a part of Asker-Lännäs Congregation within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sweden.
