Hello Wanderlust

Hello, Wanderlust, it’s good to hear from you!

Wanderlust, you’ve been absent for a while. A few days ago you started to make your voice heard again.

And I welcome you, Wanderlust, I really do. This blog title reminds me a bit about Simon and Garfunkel and the Song of Silence. It’s playing in my head now. I’m writing this from the Åland Islands. I have had a fairly boring week. But I have also had time to think, dream, and plan. On Friday it hit me – I want to go to Budapest. I can see it before my eyes – us climbing the hills of Buda, and just enjoying the streets of a city that I love. Now that I look at our old photos, I want to go there even more. Hungary was the first country we visited together as a couple, so of course it’s a special place. Endless walks, romantic dinners, and cozy bookstores. It feels like I’m already there. And that amazing Hungarian language – what else could you ask for?

It’s such a funny thing, this need to go away and abroad. Budapest is by no means the only place that has been calling my attention. I’d love to visit Riga too, soon. Maybe it’s because I have been home so much in the past nine months? Life has been feeling really funny – I’ve been in such a bubble. In February I’ll return to work, so then I’ll at least see more of central Stockholm. And I’ll get to face the world outside my bubble again.

There are some interesting destinations on our list for 2018 or what do you think about:

  • Madeira, Portugal
  • Northern Italy
  • Riga, Latvia
  • Croatia
  • Slovenia
  • Slovakia

Not all of these places are 100 %, but I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that we’ll see all these wonderful places. One of my dreams is to stay somewhere for several weeks. Another dream is to be in Bratislava in the autumn – I want to eat duck with sauerkraut, drink ginger tea, and hang out at the Christmas market.

Now, is wanderlust your friend in 2018? Where will you be heading this year?

We started off our New Year’s in Chicago, and then came home to Guam where we’re currently living abroad. We made a hop over to the island of Yap for some scuba diving in mid-January, back to Guam, and then to Honolulu, HI. We’re hoping to get over to Hokkaido, Japan for some skiing.
