Håbo-Tibble Kyrkby, Uppland – Exploring Sweden

Håbo-Tibble Kyrkby is a small locality in Upplands-Bro Municipality north-west of Stockholm. It lies within the historical province of Uppland but is today a part of Stockholm County. The locality has grown around the former church of the Håbo-Tibble Parish and has today a population of around 660 inhabitants. Even with its location so close to the Swedish capital, farms and fields surround the small locality. This is, after all, the Swedish countryside.

A Short History of Håbo-Tibble Kyrkby

The former Håbo-Tibble Parish has its origins in the Middle Ages and has had its center here in the village at least since the construction of the church around the 13th century. Until 1885, the parish was known as just Tibble Parish and is since 1971 a part of Upplands-Bro Municipality, but its borders as of 2000 are still marked as the borders of the Håbo-Tibble District, a district with a population of around 1080 inhabitants.

The locality of Håbo-Tibble Kyrkby has seen two periods of increased development since its time as the center of the parish. The first larger increase in housing came with new constructions at the end of the 1970 and then a second about 10 years later.

Things to Do and See

Stockholm might not be far away but this is still the Swedish countryside. The church is the most historical and prominent building here and it is indeed one of the major attractions for anyone coming here for any other purpose than visiting a friend or family member.

Håbo-Tibble Church

The 13th-century church still stands and it is the main center of the small locality. Until 2006, it was the center of Håbo-Tibble Parish but has since been incorporated into Bro Congregation. As with most churches from the Middle Ages, major changes to the church have taken place during the centuries. The last important restoration took place at the beginning of the 20th century. The external clock tower dates back to the early 18th century.
