Vallby, Södermanland – Exploring Sweden

Vallby is a small settlement in Eskistuna Municipality, a part of Södermanland County in eastern Sweden. This was, together with its church, once the center of the local parish.

A Short History of Vallby

Vallby Parish had its origins in the Middle Ages and its church dates to the 12th century. This was for centuries the center of social and religious life in the area. That was until the Swedish Municipal Reform of 1862. This was the time when the responsibilities of the parish were split between the new civic government of Vallby Municipality and the church congregation. The municipality was 90 years later in 1952 incorporated into Kalfjärden Municipality, which in turn became a part of Eskilstuna Municipality in 1971. The church congregation is since 1995 a part of the Kalfjärden Congregation.
