Ununge, Uppland – Exploring Sweden

Ununge is a small settlement and former parish in the historical province of Uppland in eastern Sweden. It is centered around the old parish church and is surrounded by farmland and smaller forests. Today this area is a part of Norrtälje Municipality in Stockholm County.


A Short History of Ununge

As with many parishes in Sweden, Ununge Parish has its origins in the Middle Ages. Its church is believed to have been built during the 14th or 15th century and was once the center of life for all inhabitants within the parish borders.

The Parish was with the Swedish municipal reforms of 1862 split between the local government of Ununge Municipality and the church congregation. The municipality was 1952 incorporated into Häverö Municipality, which in turn became a part of Norrköping Municipality in 1971. In regards to the church congregation. It has since 2010 been part of Edsbro-Ununge Congregation.


Things to Do and See

Welcome to the countryside of Uppland. The fields and forests are always nearby. Driving along the roads will take you past large areas of farmland. That is if you drive, these roads are also good for cycling and the forest paths create a good possibility for hikes.

Ununge Church

The parish church is believed to have been constructed during the 14th or 15th century. It is a stone church with an external wooden clock tower. The church is today a part of Edsbro-Ununge Congregation within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sweden.

  • Flights: Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) can be found 64 kilometers to the southwest.
  • Car: Ununge is located along Road 76 between Edsbro and Hallstavik.
  • Bus: Busses from UL connects Ununge with the surrounding region.
