Norra Sandö Ferry Slip – Sights on Åland

Norra Sandö Ferry Slip is at the northern tip of the island of Sandö in Vårdö Municipality. The ferry slip provides a connection between the main islands of the municipality and the two smaller islands of Västra Simskäla and Östra Simskäla. The ferry connection goes under the name Simskälalinjen, Swedish for the Simskäla Line, and is part of the road network of the Åland Islands.


Norra Sandö Ferry Slip

Norra Sandö Ferry Slip has one ferry connection, Simskälalinjen, connecting the island of Sandö with the island of Östra Simskäla. The line is operated by a cable ferry that only takes a few minutes. It runs regularly, usually based on if any car is arriving at the ferry slips. Traffic is only halted for a few shorter breaks during the day.

Don’t worry in case you have to wait a few minutes for the ferry. In case of good weather, there is usually a quite nice view to enjoy while waiting.


Finding Your Way

Even when going from Mariehamn there will be very few turns to consider to reach the Norra Sandö Ferry Slip. Driving north along road 2 all the way the cable ferry at Prästö will take you to Vårdö Municipality. From here you need to continue along the main road until you reach the church. At the church take the left turn and drive until the road comes to an end.

There is also a bus stop at the ferry slip, for anyone who is able to match their traveling with the few buses on the Åland Islands.,
