Moskosel is today a small locality with less than 200 inhabitants, but it has a grander history. The people working in the forestry industry meant that Moskosel had around 650 inhabitants during the 1960s. The forests, hills, and lakes are there today for anyone to enjoy. For where people are missing, nature is in abundance.
A Short History
The area has for a long time been inhabited by the Sami people. Moskosel developed into a community in the middle of the 19th century when both new settlers and Sami people arrived here. The strategic location with good possibility to use the nearby rivers for transport turned the locality into a connection point for the forestry industry in the area.
The railway connection for Moskosel was completed in 1936 with the last piece of Inlandsbanan and it has been an important part of the locality’s development.

There are a few things not to miss in Moskosel. Well, as a matter of fact, it is especially the surrounding nature with the many rivers and lakes that are worthwhile a visit.
Moskosels Rallarmuseum
The Navvy Museum, or Rallarmuseum in Swedish, is the heart of the locality. It is here that visitors have the chance to learn about the history of Moskosel. It is also a place where the locals meet.
Ljusselfoss and Ekopark Piteälven
A few kilometers north of Moskosel there is a rest stop along the road E45. It is right next to the Pite River at the rapids Ljusselfoss. This is also a part of the protected area of Ekopark Piteälven. An ekopark is something similar to a nature reserve but managed by non-public organizations. Ekopark Piteälven is the longest of such parks in Sweden, with its almost 80 kilometers along the Pite River.

- Flights: the closest airport Arvidsjaur Airport (AJR) is 51 kilometers away. It connects the area with the Stockholm-Arlanda Airport (ARN) for connections around the globe.
- Car: Moskosel is located along the E45 between Jokkmokk and Arvidsjaur.
- Bus: There are regional buses connecting Moskosel with the surrounding area.
