Husby-Sjutolft, Uppland – Exploring Sweden

Husby-Sjutolft, also known as just Husby, is a small settlement in the historical province of Uppland. This settlement with its church in the center was once the center of its own parish but is today a part of Enköping Municipality in Uppsala County. This small village consists of one-family homes and a few nearby farmsteads.


A Short History of Husby-Sjutolft

Husby-Sjutolft Parish has its origins in the Middle Ages. Its church is believed to have been inaugurated in the 12th or 13th century and was for centuries the center of social life in the area.

The parish survived until the Swedish municipal reform of 1862, this was when its operations were split between the new Husby-Sjutolft Municipality and the church congregation. The municipality was in 1952 incorporated into Norra Trögd Municipality which in turn became a part of Enköping Municipality in 1971. The church congregation is since 2013 a part of the Villberga Congregation.


Things to Do and See

It is the church that towers over the surrounding countryside and a few other buildings. This is an area with a lot of runestones and you don’t have to travel many kilometers to find several of them.

Husby-Sjutolft Church

The local parish church was completed in the 12th or 13th century and its tower was added in the 15th century. The tower is just one of a handful of major alterations that have been done over the centuries. It is a white stone church that today is a part of the Villberga Congregation. The congregation includes the churches of Hacksta, Husby-Sjutolft, Härkeberga, Litslena, Löt, and Villberga. All these churches make up a congregation that is a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sweden.

Husby-Sjutolftsgården

Husby-Sjutolftsgården is today an event venue but was originally the area’s school. The school opened in 1902. When the school closed it was used by the church congregation. Its current owner bought the building in 2010.

  • Flights: Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) is 45 kilometers to the east and Stockholm Västerås Airport (VST) 44 kilometers to the west.
  • Car: Husby-Sjutolft is along Road 263 between Bålsta and Enköping.
  • Bus: Buses from UL connect Husby-Sjutolft with the surrounding region.
