Åda, Södermanland | Exploring Sweden
For locals of Trosa and Vagnhärad, Åda is probably best known for “Ådarakan“, a straight part of the road that begins at the manor house at Åda. The estate covers a large area of farmland, forests, and a part of the nearby coastal waters. It has been owned by the Isoz family since 1841 and today it houses a small commercial center and a golf course.
A Short History of Åda
The first known written mention of Åda dates back to the year 1280. The estate belonged to the church during the Middle Ages but became a part of the crown during the Swedish Reformation in the 16th century. The manor, or seat farm, was established in 1642 by Patrick Kynmouth. The estate has since had several different families as its owners, including names such as Barclay, Bielke, and Oxenstierna. The current owner, the Isoz family, acquired Åda in 1841.
Åda was not spared during the Russian Pillage and was burned down in 1719. This fate was shared by several manors and towns along the Swedish coast. The current manor house was built in 1803. Two larger stone barns were later constructed in 1880 and 1909. The oldest of these burned down in the late 1990s. The stone barn has since the fire been rebuilt and is today home to a commercial center with a few smaller local businesses.
Things to Do and See
Åda is a place that many only drive by, or cycle by along the cycle path that connects Trosa and Vagnhärad. The manor is privately owned, meaning there is little access to the area. There are two places to explore here, in addition to enjoying the open landscape. The first is the commercial center of Åda Gods, with a few local businesses. Secondly is Åda Golf & Country Club, which is probably what today attracts the most visitors here.

- Car: Åda lies along Road 218 between Vagnhärad and Trosa.
- Bus: Buses from Sörmlandstrafiken connect Åda with the surrounding area.
- Train: The closest train station is in Vagnhärad, with trains to Norrköping, Nyköping, Södertälje, and Stockholm.
