Rävsnäs, Uppland – Exploring Sweden

Rävsnäs is a small settlement that today is a part of the locality Nabbo, Gräddö, and Rävsnäs in Norrtälje Municipality in Stockholm County. This part of eastern Sweden in the historical province of Uppland is known as Roslagen and has a long maritime tradition. This is noticeable also here with its harbor and sea rescue station.

A Short History of Rävsnäs

Rävsnäs is an old fishing village that has been mentioned in written sources as early as the 13th century. It has more recently developed into a small harbor and has become the home to a station for the Swedish Sea Rescue Society. In 2015, the settlement became a part of a new locality consisting of the settlements Nabbo, Gräddö, and Rävsnäs. It had by then fulfilled the requirements for the classification set by Statistics Sweden. It had prior to its re-classification a population of around 100 inhabitants.

Things to Do and See

There might mostly be small residential houses when driving through the small settlement, but this is in many ways a gateway to the archipelago and the Baltic Sea.

Rävsnäs Harbor

The local harbor is an important transit point between land and sea-based public transport. It is from here that many of the ferries depart to the islands out in the archipelago. It is also important for the transport of supplies to the islands. For tourists, it is a gateway to the outer archipelago of Norrtälje Municipality.
