A Short History of Norra Sandby

Sandby Parish had its origins in the Middle Ages and it once had an medieval church. The church was however, replaced by the current stone church that was inaugurated in 1863. That was once year after the Swedish Municipal Regorm of 1862 when the parish’s responsibilities were split between the church congregation and the new civic government of Sandby Municipality. The municipality was in 1952 incorporated into Torslunda Municipality, which in turn became a part of Mörbylånga Municipality in 1974. The church is since 2002 a part of the Norra Möckleby, Sandby, and Gårdby Congregation.

The mediaval stone church does no longer stand here, in its place is a white stone church from the 19th century. Its construction began in 1860 and it was completed three years later in 1863.
