Svärdsklova, Södermanland – Exploring Sweden

Svärdsklova is a coastal resort in Nyköping Municipality in Södermanland County. It is located a short distance to the east of the town of Nyköping, along the eastern coast of Sweden. Just next door is the archipelago with hundreds of islands and then the open waters of the Baltic Sea.

A Short History of Svärdsklova

Svärdsklova has a history going back centuries as a coastal estate. The first known written mentioning of the name dates back to the mid-16th century. The area would change owners many times over the years and found itself in better and worse states through its history. Its usage changed significantly in 1939 when the workers union of ASEA aquired the estate. This was at a time when vacations and traveling had began to be a part of people’s life. Svärdsklova developed as a resort and became popular during the 1950s and 60s.

The workers union used Svärdsklova as a resort until the year 2000 when it was required by Nyköping Municipality. The municipality owned the resort for around 10 years during which time no decision about its future was agreed upon. Instead it was sold again, this time with a loss, in 2010 to the local construction company Rydbergs Bygg. The resort’s owner since 2018 is PS Svärdsklova and it is an area that is still under development.

Things to Do and See

Most of the activities available here is part of the resort, but there are also a lot more to explore. Walking along the coast is one of many options, but there are also forests to explore to the inland. If you have access to a boat, then there are hundreds of islands located out in the archipelago. Well, yes, they are located there even if you do not have access to a boat, but they might be a bit harder to reach. There is also a local restaurant with a view of the sea.
