Gästrikland is the gate to Swedish Norrland, being the province on the southernmost tip of the traditional land. It is today mostly a part of Gävleborg County.
Gästrikland is mostly covered by plains and forests. It is, however, the mining and iron production that is up until today the most important industry in the province, still employing many of the around 153.000 inhabitants.
