Slovenia might be small, but it still includes parts of the Alps and coast to the Mediterranean. The country has been part of several other countries in the past – The Republic of Venice, the Austrian Empire, Austria-Hungary, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia to mention a few. Slovenia gained its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
We visited Slovenia in the summer of 2013. It was Ljubljana and Piran that were our destinations at the time and we have since been thinking about when to return to explore more.
