Runtuna is a village north of the town of Nyköping. This is the countryside of the province of Södermanland in eastern Sweden. The village shares the name with the former parish, whose church is just a short distance to the northwest. The population consists of around 190 inhabitants.


A Short History of Runtuna

Runtuna is a village with a declining population. The village grew some distance away from the parish church, with Road 223 being the main street through Runtuna. The population reached its peak at the beginning of the 2000s when it almost reached 270 inhabitants. It has since declined to today’s around 190 inhabitants.


Things to Do and See

Runtuna is mostly a residential area with a few services such as the school Dammlötsskolan, the pre-school Gustavsbergs Förskola, and the free church Skälbykyrkan. Otherwise, the surrounding area is covered by patches of farmland, fields, and small forests. Short excursions to the parish church or to the largest burial mound in Södermanland, Uppsa Kulle, are within easy reach.

  • Flights: The closest airport is Stockholm Skavsta Airport (NYO), only 21 kilometers away.
  • Car: Runtuna is along Road 223 a bit north of Nyköping.
  • Bus: Bus 525 from Sörmlandstrafiken stops in Runtuna on its route between Gnesta and Nyköping.
  • Train: There is no train station here. Instead, the closest train station is in nearby Nyköping.
