Stjernsund, Närke | Exploring Sweden
Stjernsund is a castle in Askersund Municipality in the historical province of Närke, today Örebro County. It dates back to the last years of the 18th century and is today a museum open to the public during the summer months.
A Short History of Stjernsund
The nobleman Johan Gabrielsson Oxenstierna founded an estate here already in 1637. Next, the current castle was built here in 1798 by Olof Burén. The manor was completed in 1801. It became a royal castle in 1823 when it came under the ownership of King Karl XIV Johan. The current owner Kungliga Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Akedemin inherited the castle from the widow Augusta Reuterswärd in 1951. The English name for the academy is Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities.

Stjernsunds Slott
The Stjernsund Castle is the main attraction here. It stands on a headland in the northern parts of Lake Vättern, the second-largest lake in Sweden. This is a castle built in neoclassical style and was completed in 1801. It is adjoined by a park and the nearby shores towards the lake.
