Bunker BS-4 “Lány” – Sights in Bratislava

There are many sights in Bratislava to explore. Some of them are quite off the beaten track and the sight we write about today is very interesting for anyone into history. Bunker BS-4 is one sight that we didn’t find our way to while living in Bratislava. We are now able to include Bunker BS-4 on our list of Sights in Bratislava because of the help of my brother Daniel. All photos in this post are taken by him during his visit to the bunker during the event Mobilizácia 2016.

Bunker BS-4 “Lány” is together with Bunker BS-8 “Hřbitov” one of 15 bunkers in Petržalka, Bratislava. Side note: the Hungarian word lány means girl.  All these constructions are a part of the fortifications that were built by Czechoslovakia between the years 1935 to 1938 as a defense against Nazi Germany. Also Hungary and Poland were considered enemies at the time. These fortifications guarded most of the Czechoslovak border. Read more about the fortifications here >>

The bunker is made available for the public by the military history club Múzeum petržalského opevnenia. Their English name is Czechoslovak Fortification Museum.

Bunker BS-4 “Lány”: Mobilizácia 2016

Daniel had the opportunity to visit Bunker BS-4 “Lány” during the event Mobilizácia 2016. The annual event was organized for the 6th time and it marked the 78th anniversary of general mobilization in Czechslovakia. There are several demonstrations during the day and visitors can enjoy the opportunity to see some of the old equipment from the war.

Bunker BS-4 “Lány”: How to get there?

Bunker BS-4 “Lány” lies in Petržalka, the suburb on the southern shore of the river Danube. You will find the bunker near the border with Austria. It lies close to the border crossing between Bratislava and Berg.

It is quite easy to go here by either car or bike. You may also consider walking the few kilometers from Aupark (a shopping center) or Most SNP (the bridge to the old town). The map below shows the exact location of bunker.

Bunker BS-4 “Lány”: Entrance fee?

Here is the museum’s own statement regarding the entrance fee as well as its objective.

Museum was opened in 2011 and has prided itself on remaining free for all the time. The aim of the museum is to educate visitors in the fortification subject,  our pre-war history, and the situation short before the Second World War. Our museum is a voluntary project which was created as the initiative of longtime friends.
