A Short History of Tillinge
Tillinge Parish was established in the Middle Ages and its church is believed to have been built at the beginning of the 13th century. The parish, with its church at the center, was the local government until the Swedish Municipal Reform of 1862. This was when its responsibilities were split between the civic government of Tillinge Municipality and the church congregation. The municipality was in 1952 incorporated into Åsunda Municipality, which in turn became a part of Enköping Municipality in 1971. The church congregation is since 2010 a part of the Tillinge and Södra Åsunda Congregation
Things to Do and See
It is the old parish church that is the most prominent building in this rural part of Sweden. It is in the middle of farmland with many smaller communities nearby.
Tillinge Church
The parish church is believed to have been completed around the year 1200. It is only small parts of the current church that is left of the old medieval church, many alterations and additions later and we have the church that stands here today. The church is today a part of the Tillinge and Södra Åsunda Congregation within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sweden.
Runestone U 785
Next to the church stands the runestone that is known by the name U 785. It is 1.7 meters high and tells of Vifast who had the stone raised in memory of his brother Gudmund who had died in Serkland.
