Øvre Alta, Vest-Finnmark – Exploring Norway
Øvre Alta is a village just to the south of the city of Alta. It lies along the river Altaelva in the far north of Norway. This is Finnmark County, an area that is part of the Sapmi cultural region. Øvre Alta is home to Sami Siida, which is one of the local windows into the life of the local reindeer herding Sámi people. It is also home to two of the main camping sites in Alta.
