Högfjället, Dalarna – Exploring Sweden

Högfjället is one of seven ski areas within the larger Sälen ski area. It is located nine kilometers from the small locality of Sälen. Högfjället is mainly a ski resort, but there is activity here all year around.

A Short History of Högfjället

It was in the 1930s that the Norwegian entrepreneur J W Klüver had the dream to establish a hotel at the location of Högfjället. The hotel Högfjällshotellet was built in 1937, but skiing was not the main reason for visiting at this time. The 1940’s European troubles also saw the Norwegian crown princess take refuge at the newly opened hotel.

The alpine skiing at Högfjället has grown in popularity and the lift and slope system of Högfjället was 1994 interlinked with the system in nearby Lindvallen.
