Getting to Know Agadir | Morocco 2025 (2/8)

We had two wishes for our first full day in Agadir. It was time to get to know the city and prepare for the adventure that had just begun. It was also a big wish from Little A to spend the day at the swimming pool. One thing was for sure, the clouds were gone and the sun was shining. It was what we Swedes would consider a hot summer day as we began our day at the breakfast buffet.

Secteur Touristique and the Waterfront Promenade

The tourist area of Agadir, or the Secteur Touristique, is a narrow piece of land along the coast. This is where most of hotels are located, especially the resort hotels. The hotels line the long sandy beach for several kilometers and the resorts are only separated from the beach by the wide waterfront promenade.

It was along this promenade that I set out to explore more while Susann and Little A enjoyed their first swim in the hotel’s pool. The promenade offers a great view of the sandy beach, the huge waves of the Atlantic Ocean, and the Agadir Oufella up on the hill. The promenade continued for 2.5 kilometers to the north before I reached the Agadir Marina. It looks like it continues for almost as long to the south as well. It was, however, to the north that most attractions along the promenade were located. I visited the tourist information to gain some recommendations for the week and how to get around. The Souk El Had, the Agadir Oufella, and the town of Taghazout were added to the list of places to visit. Susann had also wished to go to Marrakesh, but I brought with me the recommendation to visit the town of Taroudant instead, a town known as “Mini Marrakesh”.

Finding the City Center of Agadir

Little A still didn’t want to go for a walk after lunch at the hotel. So I headed out once more to find the city center of Agadir. I wanted to find an ATM belonging to a bank to get some Dirhams for the week. Euronet had several ATMs scattered around the Secteur Touristique, but I try to avoid these when traveling due to past experiences in Europe related to their fees. Finding a bank in the center of Agadir was quite easy. I eventually settled with the Al Barid Bank, which I had heard of online. It belongs to the Poste Maroc, the national post office, and I have so far not noticed any issues with the withdrawals.

The search for an ATM gave me the possibility to see a part of the city center of Agadir. Well, at least what I think was the city center. There are not many shops, but there are a few museums and businesses to explore. However, my ladies want me to be back in time for dinner. Well, Susann wanted to have time to go for a short run before dinner. So it was just to keep walking and enjoy the stroll through the center.

Evening Stroll Along the Beach

Once back at the hotel, I met up with Susann and Little A to discuss the plan for the coming day. We soon decided that we were going on an excursion for the day, the Mini Sahara tour that would take us to the south and give us the possibility to see a few sand dunes and enjoy a traditional Berber lunch. So while Susann headed out to run, Little A and I went to a nearby tour agent and booked the tour for the next day.

Susann was soon back and we were seated at the restaurant for dinner. We had set out a plan for the next day and Little A could enjoy way too many desserts as we tried as many different things as we could at the buffet. Well, we all probably ate too much as we were once more quite tired after dinner. For me that resulted in a short stroll along the waterfront promenade while my ladies prepared for bed. Well, we had acclimatized and were looking forward to the adventure to continue.
