It’s a rainy Saturday and there’s plenty of time for writing and pondering, so let’s talk about a summer of challenges. Before continuing to the actual things I’d like to try this wonderful summer of 2016, let’s focus a while or two on the definition and nature of a good challenge. One of the definitions…
A mere 48 hours ago we were sitting in a restaurant in one of the most fascinating countries we have visited thus far – Georgia. Before our trip several people asked us about our reasons to visit this small country in the Caucasus. Georgia, or საქართველო (Sakartvelo) as it’s called in Georgian, is not yet a very…
Slovenia sizzles and one of its must-see places is Piran. This lovely coastal town will take you on a journey to times long forgotten, while you enjoy the finer things in life. It’s an old seaport that has preserved its medieval atmosphere with narrow streets and compact houses. Last week we wrote about our trip to…
For a very long time I thought that Brussels was a dull city. The only time I’d dedicate a thought or two to the Belgian capital was somehow connected to the European Union and bureaucrats. And let’s be honest, bureaucracy is boring. And Belgium seemed to have so many more interesting places to offer, like…
Hello, all Sweden fans out there! We thought that we’d share yet another great destination with you – Norrköping! We visited this fabulous town a couple of years ago and it is one of my favorite towns in Sweden thus far. The city center boasts with interesting architecture and there are plenty of things to…
The word Uruguay has always had an exotic, charming, cling to it. This morning I read a thought-provoking novel, El libro de los abrazos, by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano and I thought that it would be time to conclude the blog series about our trip to South America. You can read all the previous posts here >>…
Adiós Buenos Aires y buenos días Punta del Este! In our previous post about South America we left Buenos Aires and headed back to Uruguay. Actually, before going to the famous mecca of all parties, Punta, we did spend a couple of more days in Montevideo. Getting to Montevideo was something of an adventure –…
It would be almost criminal for us to have a travel blog, live in Stockholm and NOT write about the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. So, how did we – two ordinary citizens of Stockholm – experience the festivities? Not at all, really. Maybe we don’t hang out in the right places. To all non-Europeans out there,…
As we walk down memory lane, let’s dedicate a moment or two to Slovenia – and we’re starting with the capital, Ljubljana. We visited this tiny country in southern central Europe in August 2013. At the time we were living in Slovakia (yes, two different countries!) and we wanted to spend our summer holidays somewhere…
Helsinki in the spring is the place to be! On one chilly Friday night my friend Satu and I met up with Jesper at the train station in central Helsinki. We had decided to celebrate Walpurgis the Finnish way. By that time, I had already spent a few nights on the road but Jesper was…
I have always admired people who are well-versed and well-traveled, people who suddenly charm a tired group of souls with their travel stories. Travelling, I think, is partly popular because it gives people to chance to collect these stories, it gives them the opportunity to shine. Travel Stories: The Time I Slept Under a Tree…
Bastions, barracks, and a King’s gate; anyone visiting Helsinki should definitely spend a few hours at the Suomenlinna sea fortress that is located just outside the Finnish capital. We went to the UNESCO World Heritage Site in April 2016 and this is a summary of our journey to the islands that are so popular among…
