Störlinge, Öland – Exploring Sweden

Störlinge is a small settlement in Mörbylånga Municipality in Kalmar County. It is located in the western part of Öland, the second largest island in Sweden. Here it was for a long time a part of Gärdslösa Parish. Today it has a population of around 100 inhabitants, but there are a lot more people in the area during the summer vacations.

Things to Do and See

Many who drive through Störlinge will notice the many windmills just north of the settlement This is the most prominent landmark here and a place were many stops. There is also the Agro & Motor Museum as well as a few ancient remains to explore.

Störlinge Kvarnar

There area Windmills of Störlinge consists of a total of seven windmills. All of them stand in a line along the road, first five and then a small farmstead before the final two. Öland is an island with many windmills and lines like this are not uncommon. But with seven windmills still standing it is an impressive sight.

Störlinge Lantbruks & Motormuseum

Störlinge Agro & Motor Museum, as the name would be in English, is a museum that opened in 2008. The large collection includes old cars, tractors, and a lot more.

Tjus hög

A bit to the east of Störlinge is the burial mound known as Tjus Hög. This is one of Öland’s largest burial mounds wiht its 50 meters in diameter and five meter in height. It is beleived to date back to the Bronze Age.

  • Flights: The nearest airport is Kalmar Öland Airport (KLR), which is 44 kilometers to the southwest.
  • Car: Störlinge is located along countryside roads east of Borgholm.
